I knew it was hopeless, but I tried firing up the communications array. I have read about 100 chapter books to 4 and 5 year old, and Toys is one of my favorite for young kids. Cam is the type of kid you want as a neighbor, and I love reading books about kids like that! Dennis lives with his older brother and his heartbroken father. The party guests are not amused, and they return, muttering, to their eating and drinking. It is heavy on action, light on characterisation and doesn’t demand too much of the reader, but at the same time is not at all patronising. Both series are about relationships—Lobel’s is about friends and Minarik’s is about the parent/child bond. It is quite a varied assortment, my only criteria being that there must be a dragon in it in some way. I won't forget the week everything seemed to brighten and I wasn't 'making' Zeke read anymore.
